Another month has come and gone! Now, we officially enter the busy Holiday season! But, that is ok… we don’t have a shortage of events and fun things planned for the remainder of the year, so make sure you mark your calendars!

But first, we must recap October… October was breast cancer awareness month, and HPCF crew members participated an amazing fundraiser called ‘Barbells for Boobs’ – With all the support from our awesome members, we were able to officially raise $5,352 for this cause! Great job HPCF!

Did you level up? We tested out the new format for test week, and we think everyone enjoyed this much better! Moving forward, we plan to do things similarly… With that said, the ‘test WODs’ may be slightly different. We want to keep things fun and interesting. Hope you all enjoyed it! You will be receiving your level up certificates soon! Next test week will be spring of 2019.

The Kenosha gym got some upgrades to the bathroom and athlete lounge (more on this later)

Our October challenge was a blast, and we think more members were concerned with finding rocks than logging their WOD scores, but it was fun! Our winners for the random drawing were, Myco Stibb and Briana Silvani; both received some cool new gear from FitAid!

October means ghouls & goblins! This also means dressing up and visiting a haunted house! Again this year, we saw some pretty great costumes and got our spooks on at Dungeon of Doom with a great group of friends! Don’t worry, we have something special already planned for next Halloween!

October 2018 Member of the Month Spotlight

Our October Member of the Month Spotlight goes to John Lipp!

Since coming to Harbor Park, John has seen an increase in strength, weight loss and has gained a ton of mobility/range of motion in his squats and overhead movements! When John first started, he wasn’t allowed to overhead squat due to his lack of mobility. He’s spent many hours working on his mobility and working with coaches to ensure he gets better every day. John has also been a great addition to our 3pm classes because he adopted the ‘no member left behind’ mentality. Congrats John and thanks for being awesome!

ALL LEVELS COURSE (10-12noon):

The Freestyle Connection Muscle Up Master Class is an intensive 2 hour course dedicated to examining the muscle up. This course breaks down the different types of muscle ups.

Participants will gain transferable insight on the muscle up that can be applied to you and/or your athlete’s practice. The course format consists of practical theory work and discussion, as well as low intensity full group and small group progression and skill work.

COACHES COURSE (1pm-3pm):

The Freestyle Connection Coaches Course is dedicated to coaches that are looking to level up their coaching craft and go beyond movement. This 2 hour course is an interactive experience that fosters a safe environment to explore your voice as a coach with the goal of learning tools to become a better leader.

November’s challenge is a…’Two-fer’

“Wait what?! a two-fer? But Coach Dave, you only told us about 1!” Yes, I am aware… the first part that you all know about is the ‘Deck of Cards Game’ Part B, begins on Monday, November 12th and runs through the end of the month. Part B is going to be a food drive for the Veterans Outreach program.

Part A: Deck of Cards – Play the game and get a ticket – draw 3 cards; 1st card is your movement, 2nd card is your reps; 3rd card is your sets. Complete the challenge and get a ticket for a chance to win some cool new CrossFit Gear from FitAid!

Part B: Food Drive for Veterans Outreach Program – Starting Monday, November 12th, we will have collection boxes at both gyms. Bring in any non-perishable food item and receive 1 ticket per donation (not per item). Donate an item(s), and get a ticket for a chance to win some cool new CrossFit Gear from FitAid!

– Staff Updates –

Stephanie Farrell

Meet our newest intern Stephanie! Stephanie graduated from UWP and received her Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science with a concentration in fitness management. On top of her degree, Stephanie is a certified personal trainer through NASM and is a WI licensed Massage Therapist – Yes, you heard that right!

Stephanie will be mainly assisting Coach Corian and Coach Nina in the client services division as well as developing the Personal Training portion of our program. Stephanie also plans to work with HPCF clients for massage therapy! (More info to come on this soon)

– Ship Upgrades –

After many years of use and abuse, the Kenosha kitchen / Athlete lounge got an upgrade! We removed the old ratty cabinets that were all banged up and replaced them with newer ones. We also painted and added a few new finishing touches that we are sure you all will enjoy! Thanks to Crete-Works for donating the awesome new sink!

The dumbbells and kettlebells finally got a new home! We heard all the suggestions after we transitioned the equipment from the workout floor to the new equipment area. So, we got these nice new & pretty Rogue racks to house them! Now everything is in one central location, is way more organized and the gym is more open to accommodate bigger classes!

Kenosha’s main bathroom got an overhaul as well. Thanks to Crete-Works, they donated the cabinet and the counter tops for the bathroom and the kitchen lounge to help advertise their products to you as well! We even removed the old partition, which wasn’t really needed, so we took it down to make it more inviting. Now there’s so much more room for activities, we are considering holding classes in there!

– Giving Tree Nominations –

For the past 3 years, HPCF has made an angel / giving tree for families in need in the community. This has always been an awesome experience delivering the gifts to these families. This year, we want to help out our own fit-fam! So, we are accepting nominations for recipients to the giving tree!

How it works: Click the button below to nominate up to 4 families (2 per location), you feel need some help this holiday season. These nominations are anonymous and can be for any fellow HPCF member, HPCF family member, non HPCF members/family, yourself, or anyone else you know that needs help!

This one comes from Marina Awes, but includes fellow members Lea Romero and Amanda Vincent. Sometimes it’s not all about fitness, but this squad went down to Libertyville, IL to help pack boxes of food for an awesome cause: Feed My Starving Children. You have but one life to live, you can choose to wish for change, or you can go out and do your small part to make the world a better place. Great job ladies, you make us proud!

– November’s Swashbuckler Award –

Check out these awesome results! Our man Cory earns this month’s Swashbuckler award! The photo on the left is Cory from October 2015, prior to starting CrossFit. Since then, Cory has really stepped up his game and decided to make a change in his life. He is down 75lbs, 12% body fat and his progress is still in the making! Congrats Cory! Keep up all the hard work! Your results are amazing and truly inspirational!

– CrossFit Kids Coming January 2019! –

We are excited to announce that we will officially be starting up a CrossFit Kids program in early January 2019! The details of the program are still being ironed out and there is a bit more items we need to accomplish to get the program started, but we will be releasing more details very soon!

We anticipate this program to be a hit when it is released, as we have been receiving requests from outside of HPCF as well as other HPCF members for this exciting new program! Because of this, we anticipate the program to sell out once it is released! So, we are taking early reservations to claim your spot first!
