Member Spotlight April/May 2019
Congratulations to our April spotlight member, Maren McNeil!
Maren recently celebrated her 1 year anniversary with Harbor Park. During the past year, as Coaches, we got to watch the growth of Maren’s mindset, strength and her awesome transformations!
I think that is the best part about Coaching… Watching others succeed and become better versions of themselves!
Maren has not only been an awesome person to coach in class, but she has been an outstanding HPCF Ambassador. She routinely helps us plan fun and exciting activities for the social events as well as welcoming new members who start in the gym.
Congratulations Maren on your 1 year anniversary, as well as your Member Spotlight, this is very well deserved!
Now, let’s hear what Maren had to say when we asked her some questions:
NAME: Maren McNeil
Hometown: Washington Island, WI
Occupation: Music Teacher
Favorite WOD/Metcon: there are so many. On April 1 we did “Not A Joke” with running, floor presses, and squats and I loved that!
Favorite Lift: deadlifts and power cleans
Favorite Cheat Meal: Culver’s Mint Oreo concrete mixer 🙂
Athletic Background: ran a half marathon in 2014 (senior year of college). Played some soccer and basketball as a child/middle schooler but I chose piano lessons over sports growing up!
Hobbies/Interests outside of the gym: reading, playing my ukulele, petting dogs (especially my dog!)
Why did you start?: needed a 180 in my life—something big had to change and I’m glad CrossFit did that for me!
Why do you keep coming back?: my goals, gains, and my 5:30 am friends
How long have you been a member of Harbor Park CrossFit?: just had my 1 year foundations anniversary on April 19!
How did you find CrossFit?: A college friend of mine kept posting about it on Facebook and I was curious
How has CrossFit changed your Life?:
I feel more confident, stronger, and ready to take on challenges, both in and out of the gym
What is your biggest achievement so far, and what is your next big goal?: I lost 50 lbs and I can do a handstand for the first time in my life. I can also run a sub10:00 mile. My next goals are getting double unders, a sub 30:00 5k, and beating my old half marathon time!
What is your favorite thing about Harbor Park CrossFit?: the diversity of the workouts has given me amazing physical results, but the people are truly why I keep coming back. Surrounding myself with a group of encouraging and loving people (shout-out to you, 5:30 am class) is the best way to start every day, and that group has added so much to my quality of life.
Have any advice for new members?: this sounds so cliche, but don’t give up! Be patient with yourself — don’t compare yourself to others. Keep coming back, and never forget why you started.
