Our June/July 2019 Member of the Month Spotlight goes to Sherry Wirth
It is hard not to agree with our pick for the M.O.M this month, and that Sherry Wirth stands out in the forefront of your mind for this honor.
Sherry went out of her way to make sure Pilates would remain at Harbor Park by getting her certification and bringing what she learned to every member. Since getting this certification, Sherry has been teaching classes at both locations, which we’ve seen some tremendous progress in our athlete’s ability to brace with their core! Not to mention every class has been packed, so we know everyone is loving it! Aside from Pilates, Sherry is a long time HPCF Ambassador Member, and has been helping in any way she can to help spread the “Community” aspect of CrossFit to every member at the gym. We enjoy seeing Sherry’s smiling face every day!

NAME: Sherry Wirth
Hometown: Kenosha, WI
Occupation: Quality Assurance Analyst
Favorite WOD/Metcon: None specified ……….. So, all of them!
Favorite Lift: Deadlift
Favorite Cheat Meal: My favorite cheat meal is lasagna with cheesy garlic bread.
Athletic Background: I didn’t have much of one until I found CrossFit
Hobbies/Interests outside of the gym: I enjoy spending time with my dog, friends and family.
Why did you start?: I realized that I needed to focus on my health after losing a few people who meant a lot to me.
Why do you keep coming back?: The gym and everyone in it. I look forward to going at the end of the day to relieve stress, laugh and continue to achieve my health goals.
How long have you been a member of Harbor Park CrossFit?: A couple months shy of two years.
How did you find CrossFit?: A friend told me about how her and her mother had joined and how everyone was so inviting and helpful.
How has CrossFit changed your Life?: CrossFit has helped me lower my stress level, control my social anxiety and achieve health goals I didn’t know I had. Previously, I was very self-conscious when I worked out and because of that wouldn’t push myself to my full potential. Now, I enjoy knowing that coaches and other members are there to help me do just that.
What is your biggest achievement so far, and what is your next big goal?
My biggest achievement is becoming a certified Pilates trainer. Before joining the gym, I had never tried Pilates. Then, I saw how strengthening my core was helping with all of the movements we do in CrossFit and I was hooked. When I found out the gym’s Pilates instructor was going to have to suspend classes for the summer, I reached out to her for help getting certified. The owners of the gym luckily gave me a chance to lead classes and I found a new passion! My next goal is to help others feel the happiness and excitement I feel being a Harbor Park team member! Also, to achieve my first pull-up!
What is your favorite thing about Harbor Park CrossFit?:
My favorite thing about Harbor Park CrossFit is the feeling of inclusion, acceptance even though I am not the fastest and don’t lift the most. Coaches and other members make you feel part of the family and offer help at all times. Everyone is happy to be there and are like-minded with health goals. They encourage you to be healthy!
Have any advice for new members?:
My advice for new members is to give it a try because you won’t be disappointed. Don’t let the word CrossFit intimidate you. CrossFit is for everyone no matter where you are in your fitness journey!
